Webinar Competition Call for Submissions

IEEE CIS invites students and young professionals (those within fifteen years from their first degree) to submit their entries to the 2015 Webinar Competition. The aim of the webinar will be to explain either a real world application of computational intelligence or an emerging topic in computational intelligence. Submissions are in two phases:

• Phase 1: the participants should submit the title and abstract of their intended webinars. The abstract should contain no more than 500 words.
• Phase 2: shortlisted participants will prepare a 30-min talk and submit it to YouTube.

Prizes

1st Place: 500 USD
2nd Place: 300 USD
3rd Place: 200 USD
The IEEE CIS reserves the right to award less than three prizes, including no prize, should that be judged appropriate. The decisions made by the competition organizing committee are final.

Each prize winner will also receive an official IEEE Computational Intelligence Society prize certificate.

Judgement criteria for shortlisting and selecting the winners of the competition

• Novelty of the real world application or the emerging topic being explained
• Soundness
• Relevance (there should be a clear justification of why the entry can be considered an emerging topic or a real world application of computational intelligence)
• Popularity (number of “likes” vs “dislikes” and comments in YouTube) – note that these will be counted only until 27th September 2015
• Presentation and clarity

 

Eligibility

The submission must be made by a single author who must be over the age of 18 (under 18s must provide parental consent).
Proof that the author qualifies as a student or young professional at the deadline of phase 1 should be provided. This will be a letter from the University confirming that the author is a student, a BSc diploma, or equivalent.

Winners must sign a video collection form giving IEEE the right to include their video at the IEEE CIS Education Website.

Format

Phase 1: abstract submissions should be in English. The abstract should have no more than 500 words.
Phase 2: videos must be narrated in English and be available through YouTube. The video should take no more than 30 min. At the beginning of the video, a disclaimer of "This video is submitted to the Webinar Competition 2015 supported by IEEE CIS" should be shown.

Call for Participation CEC2015 Competition "Dynamic Multi-objective Optimization"

Aim

Most real-world optimization problems have more than one objective, with at least two objectives that are  in conflict with one another. Furthermore, in many real-world situations the environment does not remain  static, but is dynamic and changes over time. However, in recent years most research was focussed on  either static multi-objective optimization problems (MOOPs) or dynamic single-objective optimization  problems (SOOPs). When solving dynamic MOOPs(DMOOPs) an algorithm has to track the changing POF  over time, while finding solutions as close as possible to the true POF and maintaining a diverse set of
solutions.

The aim of the competition is to address the lack of a comprehensive comparison of dynamic multi-objective optimization (DMOO)algorithms by providing a common platform for a fair comparison of DMOO algorithms. The competition enables participants to run their DMOO algorithms on 12 benchmark functions  with a range of characteristics and complexity for 8 different environments (8 different change frequency
and change severity combinations).

Researchers are welcome to evaluate their DMOO algorithms on the benchmark functions of this competition and to report their results by submitting a paper to the associated special session on DMOO.

Participants of the competition should follow the process outlined in the Competition Process to enter the  competition. The required format ofthe POS and POF files will be added to the website soon.

It should be noted that by entering the competition you agree that we are allowed to share your data with fellow researchers in the field. Therefore, this competition will provide DMOO researchers with experimental data to compare their algorithms against in future.

The competition deadline is 15 February 2015.

Take note that if you want to submit your results as a paper to the special session on DMOO, the deadline for paper submission is 19 December 2015

Second Annual CIS IEEE Video Competition

Following on from the first video competition, which produced two outstanding winning videos about fuzzy  logic, we invite you to produce an introductory 3-minute video about one of the following Computational  Intelligence fields of interest:

● Neural Networks
● Evolutionary Computation
● Hybrid Intelligent Systems

The aim of the video is to answer the question “what is...?”, for a Computational Intelligence field of interest, to an audience of high school students and the general public, with limited mathematical background. The video should also explain an example application of how the method can be used in everyday life. The video should be suitable for posting on YouTube and Facebook. The video competition is an exciting opportunity for all IEEE members to work together in conveying technical topics to nonexperts.

Prizes for entrants:

1st prize: 600USD + iPad* + CIS membership (1 year)
2nd prize: 500USD + CIS membership (1 year)
3rd prize: 400USD + CIS membership (1 year)

Prize for everyone: An iPad* will be raffled to anyone who “likes” a video on our www.facebook.com/IEEE.CIS page (excluding competition entrants and organisers).

Teams consist of 1 to 5 people. The team leader must be an IEEE member.

Second Annual Video Competition

The IEEE Computational Intelligence Society is running its second annual video competition. The competition is to create a video on one of the following subjects:

• Neural Networks
• Evolutionary Computation
• Hybrid Intelligent Systems

The first prize is US$600, second prize is US$500, and third prize is US$400. Registration of interest must be received by the 1st of August, 2013, videos received by 14th of October, 2013, and the winners will be announced on the 1st of December, 2013.

Results of the Facebook photo competition

The Facebook photo competition closed on the 30th of September. The winners, as judged by the number of "likes" each photo received, are as follows:

In first place, and winner of an iPad, is Ryan Rhay Vicerra, of the Philipines, with 1452 Likes. Ryan also wins free membership to the CIS for 2013.

In second and third place, and winning free CIS membership for 2013, are  Kanny Krizzy David, from the Philippines, with 1219 Likes, and Wissam Audah from the UK, with 489 Likes.

Competition Call for IEEE CIS GOLDs and Students: Pitch your CI Research Idea and Win an iPad 2!!!

The CIS GOLD subcommittee is hosting a “Novel CI Research Idea Pitch” competition during the Student and GOLD reception at WCCI 2012 in Brisbane Australia.

Your Challenge: Design a one-page research proposal of your Computational Intelligence idea and get a chance to pitch your idea to a panel of CI experts and your peers using an “elevator pitch” (3 minute time limit). An “elevator pitch” is a short summary of a research idea. The research area must be “computational intelligence” and the participants must “sell” their idea to the judges to qualify for prizes. A panel of three CI experts will select 3 best pitches and the audience (your peers) will rank 1st, 2nd and 3rdwinner through secret ballot. Prizes will include 1 iPad for 1st winner, certificates and free full year IEEE CIS memberships. Register now for a chance to be heard!
